The Philadelphia Eagles drafted RB Jay Berwanger from the University of
Chicago with the first pick in 1936 but Berwanger never played in the
NFL.

The Boston Redskins drafted B Riley Smith from Alabama with the second
pick in the 1936 draft. Smith played B-LB with the Redskins in 1936 thru
1938.

The Boston Redskins drafted B Jay Berwanger, University
of Chicago with the first pick in 1936. The Redskins traded his signing
rights to the Chicago Bears. When the Bears rejected Berwanger's contract
demands, he took a job as a salesman. RB Billy Cannon
was drafted with the first pick by the Los Angeles Rams in the 1960. Instead
he signed with the upstart AFL and became an all pro running back and
tight end and played with the Houston Oilers, Oakland Raiders and Kansas
City Chiefs. The Washington Redskins used the first pick in 1962 to select
RB Ernie Davis of Syracuse. The Redskins immediately
traded Davis to the Cleveland Browns for future Hall of Famer Bobby Mitchell.
Davis was diagnosed with leukemia before his first training camp and died
with a year. The Buffalo Bills picked LB Tom Cousineau
first in 1979. Cousineau decided to play Canadian Football instead. He
later played in the NFL for the Cleveland Browns and the San Francisco
49ers. RB Bo Jackson was the first selection by the Tampa
Bay Buccaneers in the 1986 draft. Jackson refused to sign with the Bucs
and began a baseball career with the Kansas City Royals. Jackson was subsequently
drafted again by the Los Angeles Raiders in round 7 of the 1987 draft
and joined the Raiders for several years after the baseball season ended.
QB John Elway was the first round selection of the Baltimore
Colts in the 1983 draft. He refused to sign with them and was traded to
the Denver Broncos for QB Mark Hermann, Tackle Chris Hinton and a first
round selection in 1984 that was used to pick G Ron Solt.

of Fame?
T Joe Stydahar from West Virginia was selected with
the sixth pick in the first round of the 1936 draft by the Chicago Bears.
He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1967.

QB Jim Kelly was drafted with the 14th pick in
the 1983 draft by the Buffalo Bills and was elected to the Hall of Fame
in 1999.

DE Eric Swan was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals in 1991 with the sixth
