2014 NFL Draft Round Five
By Chris Malumphy
With the first pick in the fifth round of the 2014 NFL Draft the Philadelphia Eagles drafted defensive end Taylor Hart one of coach Chip Kelly's players from Oregon. The Kansas City Chiefs may have finally drafted a decent quarterback when they selected Aaron Murray from Georgia. The last time the Chiefs drafted a quarterback who won a game for them was when they picked Todd Blacklegde, a major bust, who was the second of six quarterbacks drafted in the first round in 1983 following John Elway and before Jim Kelly, Tony Eason, Ken O'Brien and Dan Marino. Murray isn't the ideal size, but played well at a major level and will benefit by playing for a quarterback friendly coach in Andy Reid and by joining a stable quarterback environment behind Alex Smith, Chase Daniel and Tyler Bray. Just as important, A.J. McCarron, two-time national champion, joins the Cincinnati Bengals to eventually challenge Andy Dalton, or at least temper his salary demands by giving the Bengals a viable alternative.
