2016 NFL Draft Round Two
By Chris Malumphy
The Cleveland Browns began the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft by selecting defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah from Oklahoma State. The Browns eschewed a wide receiver, linebacker Myles Jack and quarterback Connor Cook to take a player fast enough to be an edge rusher who can also drop back into coverage. The Titans followed by picking Clemson defensive end Kevin Dodd. The Dallas Cowboys took Notre Dame linebacker Jaylon Smith who is coming off an ACL injury. The San Diego Chargers picked tight end Henry Hunter from Arkansas. The Jacksonville Jaguars swapped picks with Baltimore to select a Ravens' type linebacker, Myles Jack from Oklahoma, who dropped significantly due to an injury that some suggest will limit his career severely. The Kansas City Chiefs drafted Mississippi State defensive tackle Chris Jones. Defensive back Xavian Howard of Baylor was picked by the Dolphins. Eastern Kentucky defensive end Noah Spence, who had also played for Ohio State, has a new home with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The New York Giants added an additional target for Eli Manning by picking Sterling Shepard, a wide receiver from Oklahoma.

The New Orleans Saints took large possession receiver Michael Thomas from Ohio State when the team is in woeful need of defensive help. The Green Bay Packers selected tackle Jason Spriggs from Indiana. The Seattle Seahawks traded up to grab defensive tackle Jarran Reed who had a surprising long wait to be selected. Quarterback Brock Osweiler and running back Lamar Miller will enjoy the play of guard Nick Martin taken by the Houston Texans from Notre Dame.
Quarterback Christian Hackenberg of Penn State was selected by the Jets as another in a long string of players to try to make it big at that position in New York. Quarterback whisperer Chan Gailey will be asked to resurrect another career. The Atlanta Falcons picked linebacker Deion Jones from LSU. Su'a Cravens, the linebacker from USC, was drafted by the Washington Redskins. Clemson cornerback Mackensie Alexander joins the Vikings. Having lost two wide receivers to free agency, and having had three wide receivers drafted directly before they picked in round one, the Cincinnati Bengals took Pittsburgh wide receiver Tyler Boyd. Clemson defensive back T.J. Green was drafted by the Colts. The Pittsburgh Steelers drafted a second defensive back in Sean Davis from Maryland.
Florida State kicker Roberto Aguayo was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a pick obtained from the Kansas City Chiefs. The last time a kicker was drafted as early as the second round was Mike Nugent of Ohio State by the Jets in 2005. Alabama cornerback Cyrus Jones was drafted by the New England Patriots who then traded they next pick they had, previously obtained from Arizona, to Arizona. Arizona then drafted Vonn Bell, a safety from Ohio State. Samford cornerback James Bradberry will try to replace Josh Norman in Carolina.
