Rams, Bills & Seahawks Coach Chuck Knox has Passed Away

By Chris Malumphy

Coach Chuck Knox who began his head coaching career with five years of 10 or more victories in 14 game seasons (going 54-15-1 .779) for the Rams has died. Knox also had success coaching the Bills and the Seahawks despite never having a premier QB. Joe Ferguson, David Krieg & Pat Haden were among his best. During his 22 seasons as a head coach, Knox's teams were 186-147-1 (.558). He went 7-11 (.389) in the playoffs causing many to question whether he could win a big game but until the last few years of his career he almost always had his teams in contention. Knox offense was based on a strong running game and it was probably his conservative game plans and the lack of stellar quarterbacking that kept his teams from the ultimate success. Still, he was undoubtedly one of the finer head coaches of his day.
