2018 NFL Draft Second Round

By Chris Malumphy

With the first pick in the second round of 2018 NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns selected offensive lineman Austin Corbett from Nevada. The New York Giants followed by taking guard Will Hernandez from the University of Texas-El Paso. The Browns then added running back Nick Chubb from Georgia.

The Colts drafted South Carolina State linebacker Darius Leonard and Auburn guard Braden Smith. USC Running back Ronald Jones was tabbed by the Buccaneers. Iowa center James Daniels will snap the ball to Mitchell Trubitsky in Chicago. SMU wide receiver Courtland Sutton will play in Denver while Boston College edge rusher Harold Landry will ply his trade in Tennessee. Penn State Tight end Mike Gesicki was drafted by the Dolphins.

The Detroit Lions drafted running back Kerryon Johnson from Auburn. Washington wide receiver Dante Pettis went to the 49ers. The Green Bay Packers took cornerback Joshua Jackson of Iowa. Breeland Speaks, defensive tackle from Mississippi, was drafted by the Chiefs. The Cardinals gave Sam Bradford and Josh Rosen an additional target by taking Texas A&M wide receiver Christian Kirk. The Chargers continued to add to their defense with the selection of USC linebacker Uchenna Nwosu.

The Eagles traded up to get tight end Dallas Goedert from South Dakota State. Connor Williams, who built himself up to avoid being bullied, became a star tackle at the University of Texas and will continue his pro career by joining the Cowboys. The Bears will have Memphis wide receiver Anthony Miller on the receiving end of those Mitch Trubitsky passes.

Rutgers linebacker Kemoko Turay went to the Colts. Cornerback M.J. Stewart of North Caroline joins the Buccaneers. Wake Forest free safety Jessie Bates was drafted by the Bengals. LSU cornerback Donte Jackson will play in Carolina. The Patriots added Florida cornerback Duke Dawson. Sam Houston State's P.J. Hall will play in the middle of the Raiders' defensive line. LSU running back Derrius Guice, who voiced concerns about the questions he was asked at the Combine, was drafted by the Redskins.

Oklahoma State wide receiver James Washington was drafted by the Steelers. LSU wide receiver D.J. Chark will play for the Jaguars. The Vikings selected Pittsburgh tackle Brian O'Neill. The Buccaneers took cornerback Carlton Davis from Auburn. With the last selection in the 2018 NFL Draft second round the Indiapolis Colts drafted Tyquan Lewis, a defensive end from Ohio State.

While five quarterbacks were selected in the first round of the draft, none were picked in round two, leaving Mason Rudolph of Oklahoma State waiting on the sidelines. Some pundits, albeit in the minority, had Randolph among both the top quarterbacks and players in the draft. Time will tell.
